WHY GET INVOLVED...

There are loads of reasons to get involved and we've tried to squeeze in as many onto this web page as we can.

1. THE PRIZES!

There are over 100 prizes to be won, including the prestigious BT Young Scientist(s) of the Year Award and the chance to represent Ireland at the European Union Contest for Young Scientists.  Click here to find out more about the prizes.

2. THE SUCCESS STORIES!

Many previous winners of the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition have gone on to amazing careers in the science and technology industries. Indeed, many of them used their award as a springboard to launch their professional lives. Click here to check out our past winners Hall of Fame.

3. YOUR CV OR APPLICATION FORM FOR UNIVERSITY / COLLEGE

The BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition is a brilliant bit of extra-curricular activity to put on your CV or application form for College / University. It shows a real passion for science and an ability to think for yourself.  Its also really helps to build your confidence in presenting as you learn how to articulate your ideas before speaking to the judges.

4. TEACHERS / SCHOOL

The rewards aren’t just confined to entrants. Teachers will see real, long-term benefits by getting involved. It’s a great way to get pupils inspired about the vital subjects of science and technology and a brilliant way to showcase your school’s scientific pedigree. It also helps to put the fun back into subjects which are viewed by many as a bit ‘dry’.

BUT DON'T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT...

“This was the first time we had entered the competition and the level of support provided by the organisers was outstanding. The event days ran flawlessly and provided a rare opportunity for students to share their passion for science and engineering with their peers and professionals. The whole event had a concert-like feel to it, which contrasted with the stereotype view of scientists as ‘nerds’.”

Dr Paul Wilson (Teacher) Ballyclare High School

“It’s big, it’s very big and it’s busy and it’s loud and it’s just so much fun. It’s basically a hall full of students there for the 4 days, showing their projects, having fun, making friends. You meet so many people it’s just brilliant. An experience you'll never forget!”

Aisling Judge, (Winner of BT Young Scientist of the Year 2006) Kinsale Community College, Cork.

"A science competition, for me? I didn't think so, but I gave it a try and it was brilliant, that good I went three years in a row! It wasn't just about the science and technology, though that helped on my UCAS application form! For me it was about the people I met and the craic we had. If you get the chance to go, grab it!"

Keith Mooney, (student) Abbey Grammar CBS, Newry.

“How to describe the BT Young Scientist? …..In short …Electric, professional, student focussed, sociable, expert judges, alive with Science….. The competition is unrivalled against its worldwide equivalents. It reinforces a love of science and the value of Scientific research in the real world. Students who exhibit say it’s a hugely enjoyable week giving them life changing experience they will remember forever. Not to be missed!”

Catherine Tattersall, (Teacher) Sutton Park School, Dublin
